Get on your hiking boots, pack a lunch, and get outdoors for some radio fun!
It is time for the 2025 SFRC Simul-SOTA Event where we will activate multiple Summits-on-the-Air (SOTA) sites on the same day and time period. This event is open to all licensed amateur radio operators … anywhere.
The date and time for the 2025 SFRC Simul-SOTA event are:
Saturday April 5th 1000 – 1200 PDT (1700 - 1900 UTC)
NOTE: The two hour period listed is designed to maximize the number of Summit-to-Summit contacts among Simul-SOTA participants. Everyone can operate before and after that period for as long as they choose – just be on air from 1000-1200 PDT.
Keep in mind that Summit-to-Summit contacts bring higher SOTA scores.
Attached is just a partial list of Bay Area SOTA sites. There are many, many more to choose from as you will see on the SOTLAS site:
https://sotl.as/map/coordinates/37.589875,-122.479311/8.1 Just as we have in past years, we will use our own callsigns and file our own contact reports with SOTA.
Please send a DM to @Jeff Curry KK6JJZ on SFRC's Slack with the SOTA site you are interested in activating and your mode/band preference. We will build a list as responses come in and post it here on Slack. The Operator List posted on this Slack channel will serve as a means of keeping track of how many SOTA operators are at each site and on which bands.
Multiple operators on a single SOTA site are welcome but they will need to coordinate their band choices and proximity of gear locations. Participants are responsible for obtaining the permits or the necessary permissions where required. Federal, State and County sites have differing rules for setting up gear and access.
All license levels are welcome and band usage should be license-qualified.

NOTE: Although our concentration for this event will be on SOTA contacts, some SOTA sites may also qualify as POTA sites for those interested in additional scoring activity.
