San Francisco Section News - August 2011

A quick look at the calendar:

On August 6 and 7, the Valley of the Moon Amateur Radio Club will activate special event station,N6P, at Point Reyes Lighthouse. They will be operating above the lighthouse from a garage used by the rangers. Visitors and operators welcome, but check with them for current parking conditions. They plan to concentrate on the 20 and 40m bands using both SSB and digital modes. For those wishing a QSL card, please send SASE to Sonoma PD, 175 First St. W., Sonoma, Ca 95476. For more information, check their website at www.vomarc.org/events

The Sonoma County Radio Amateurs are planning a mini-DXpedition the weekend of August 12 to 14 to the Lost Coast to activate the rare CM79 grid square. I’m told that they plan to operate the small sliver of land that rests in the square, the remainder of which is in the Pacific Ocean. Using the special event call N6T, they will be active on HF, 6, 2, 70 cm and satellite. Check the SCRA website www.sonomacountyradioamateurs.com for more info. Work that square!

Pacificon 2011 will be in Santa Clara this year the weekend of October

14 to 16. This is a new, larger venue for Pacificon which promises better parking, larger meeting rooms and friendlier hotel staff.

Organized by the convention-skilled Mt. Diablo ARC, Pacificon is the ARRL Pacific Division Convention with seminars galore and plenty of

goodies at the vendor tables. For more information and reservations,

visit their website at www.pacificon.org

If you or your club have something you’d like to have mentioned here, drop me a email with the info. See you on the bands......

73, Bill
