THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

 May

OK, back from Visalia and my DX batteries are on full charge! Watch out.  The convention was a bunch of fun. Made some new friends, ran into a few old ones (friends,) spent a little money and came back with a few raffle prizes.

At our April meeting I reported on our V.E. Testing session of April 10th. Well I wanted to make sure everybody got the news so I will add a note here. It was our 2nd test session and very well attended. Fifteen brave souls came through our doors. It was a very successful day and our first official new licensee was Joe Johnson our VA Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, now KJ6OCC. We even had an applicant visit from Kelseyville. Congratulations to all and keep your eyes open for some new features to our VE Program in the near future.

A personal thank you to Bob (KG6QDK), Scott (AF6RT) and Dave (WA6UHA) for your stalwart efforts to help reestablish my beam’s health. It’s nice to hear those countries once again.

With a bit of last minute slight-of-hand and prayer, Nick (NF1P) and I pulled together the Walk MS event (May 1st) which was executed by our volunteers with style and class. The course was new this year and logistics were settled at the last minute.  As always, we managed a very polished presentation.  Nick was particularly important in our operation as he took over as lead after I decided that it might be in my better interests to spend that day with my wife celebrating our 29th Anniversary. A big THANK YOU to:  Nick (NF1P), Schuyler (KJ6OCF-newly licensed on April 10th), Wassim (WN6WJN), Art (KJ6ANT), Jim (KI6RYE), Ted (KI6FQB) and Edward (KI6EMZ). Mark your calendars as we will be supporting the  BIKE MS: Waves to Wine Event, Sept. 17-18, 2011.

Bring your sweet tooth this month as we will have an “Ice Cream Social”.  Usually a Pasta Feed and almost Taco Night, we thought it might be fun to just have a casual sit around, serve some desert and get to know one another better. A small meeting may break out just for a few pieces of news. Interested in seeing the VA Shack? We can do that too!  In June we are fortunate to have Dean Straw (N6BV) return to help us prepare for Field Day. Oh yeah. Have you heard?  Field Day 2011-TREASURE ISLAND! Details at the Social.

I’ll be looking for your stories of how you had fun with Amateur Radio since the last meeting.  See you on the 20th.
